Smart Black Box is a fantastic and powerful device. I'm using it in a "wild zone": Italy! It works very well and often I capture some interesting video about crazy italian drivers. Now I'm feeling more safe with this device. |

The SBX-1100 offers an affordable solution to offline vehicle tracking or security uses. I used the 170 degree model and it provided stunning images both day and night. The supplied software is easy to use and allows you to configure frame rate and image quality as well as produce still images and .avi files with or without the on-screen data. For the price you can't beat this unit. Also check out the SBX-3100 if you need additional cameras and audio. |

I was pulled over in Maryland for speeding. The cops searched my car and then gave me a warning. Funny thing was I had this device in the car and it proved I wasn't speeding. LOTTERY! |

PROS: THE SMART BLACK BOX IS A VIABLE TOOL.
LIKE CAR INSURANCE, IT IS GOOD TO
KNOW YOU HAVE A WITNESS . . . ESPECIALLY IF ONE DRIVES RATIONALLY
AND OBEYING RULES OF THE ROAD.
THE COMPACTNESS IS A GREAT FEATURE.
THE AUTOSTART IS VERY HANDING . . .
WHO WANTS TO TURN THIS THEN THAT, WHEN JUST THE TURN OF THE IGNITION DOES ALL THAT FOR YOU. MY MONEY WAS WELL SPENT.
THE LOOP FEATURE IS VERY USEFUL.
CONS: LARGER MEMORY CARD. BETTER
RESOLUTION VIDEO RECORDING. AND MORE FRAMES PER SECOND.

It is a great unit, but found one flaw. No sound, for my use I require sound,i am now searching for a comparable unit with sound. Overall the unit works very well, but without sound I can't use it. |

Excellent product. We have a contract guard service at our facility and the dash cam has already come in very handy. We have a mobile patrol vehicle that our guards drive. The guard fell asleep at the wheel and drove into a trailer. Luckily, he was driving slow so there was no personal injury. However, the guard tried to cover it up, but the dash cam proved otherwise.
I would highly recommend this product to anyone. |

What a brilliant investment I've made !! The other week my wife had a car run into her in the shopping center car park . I was able to have a look at the entire accident when she got home . We had no trouble with the other party paying up . I had the incident transfered to disc for our record . I've had other inferior drive recorders in the past , but the KCI Smart Black Box wins hands down in every department . |

Overall pretty good unit so far, time will tell ;).
We would like to see a way to have unit (1100) start the GPS chip and only record, and stop recording video, when the record button is pushed.
This mode could be part of the initial setup software.
Additionally, the log file screen in the software need to be able to show the G-force panel at a much bigger size if possible. Perhaps a full screen mode could be enabled.

Excellent! Works as advertised. Sensitivity is adjustable - I had to tweak a bit to allow for the stiff truck suspension. View is good (as long as the window is clean...).
Customer service was very good - KCI do not only talk - they follow through. |

Very impressed with the size and ease of use. the only reason I didn't give 5 stars was that the software only works on Windows based machines. If I could get it to work on my Mac, it would be 5 stars. |

The device works well in daylight, has a large field.I can not make out license plate from vehicle in front of me but one can easily see the traffic.
Recording after dark is not practical.
Have yet to see how the unit holds up to the higher temperatures we have here in AZ.
Wishlist:
Audio recording (On/Off in setup software), to record traffic stop conversations.
Higher light sensitivity for evening/night use.
Overall I am happy with the device for the cost - |

An excellent piece of equipment for the price.
Caveats:
1. It is nowhere near foolproof. The lens sticks out so much that it is easy to bump it against the windshield during installation or removal. Maybe the plastic shell should be modified.
2. The front-to-rear accelerometer shows 0.24g even when the car is stopped. I wish there were a software calibration option. Or is it just my unit?
